Arrival and Dismissal

We make every effort to ensure the safety of our students during arrival and dismissal. To that end, we have developed an Arrival/Dismissal Map to help drivers understand and follow the approved procedures. Please contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have.

During the arrival and dismissal procedures, the school parking lot is designated as one-way. The entrance is at Placid Place West and the exit at Steele Drive.

Arrival

The Owensboro Catholic Elementary K-3 Campus opens each morning at 7:00. A teacher will be present at the cafeteria door to receive students where they will be supervised until 7:30, then dismissed to their classrooms. If students arrive after 7:30, they should proceed directly to their classrooms. The instructional day begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. Students arriving after the 7:45 bell will be considered tardy and must stop by the secretary’s office for an admittance pass.

Upon entering the parking lot from Placid Place there are two traffic lanes leading to the school. The lane on the left is for buses and the one on the right is for all other vehicles.

Bus traffic follows the left lane and merges to the right after passing the main entrance to continue on to the designated unloading zone at the East end of the building.

Other vehicles follow the right lane to their designated unloading zone, that stretches from the main entrance to the West end of the building. There is adequate space in the unloading zone to allow eight to ten vehicles to be unloaded simultaneously. Students must exit the vehicle on the passenger side since a bus traffic may be present in the left lane. After unloading, vehicles must pull forward and merge into the left lane to avoid the bus zone. If a bus is present there is no need to yield unless it is exiting the parking lot.

Dismissal

Bus riders will be dismissed at 2:05 pm.

Extended School Day will be dismissed at 2:30 pm.

Car riders will be dismissed at 2:30 pm.   Drivers should plan to arrive before that time in order to secure a parking place in the school or church lots. The entrance to the parking lot will be closed by the campus staff promptly at dismissal time.

Students will be released from the school and are instructed to look for their ride so they can get into the vehicle as quickly as possible. Kindergarten students are lined up along the wall close to the cafeteria entrance and must be escorted by an older sibling or guardian. If a student cannot locate their ride, they are instructed to return to the school to wait.

Once all students have cleared the parking lot, the drivers are dismissed one row at a time, from the school and main church parking lots. Drivers arriving after dismissal time should pick up their child at the main entrance via the vehicle traffic lane.

We are unable to provide supervision for students who linger on the school property after dismissal.  Unless participating in an adult supervised activity, please help us by being prompt when picking up your child(ren).  For those who walk, instruct them to leave the school property immediately.  Any student who has not been picked up will be placed in Extended School Day Program and parents will be charged.
